Florida Advanced Gastroenterology Center is a medical office that provides area residents with a resource for the latest advances in patient care. Dr. Imad Nakshabendi is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a Gastroenterology Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, and a Member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Nakshabendi completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia and finished his research and fellowship at the University of South Florida. He is dedicated to diagnosing and treating disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and liver, pancreas, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, and colon. From diagnosis to treatment and prevention, Dr. Imad Nakshabendi is committed to preserving, improving, and promoting your well-being and health.

Dr. Imad Nakshabendi is a highly skilled and board-certified gastroenterologist and internist with over 30 years of experience in the field. He completed his medical degree at the University of Baghdad and earned his PhD from the University of Glasgow in 1997, where his groundbreaking research focused on small intestinal mucosal function and its relationship to disease. Dr. Nakshabendi completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida in 2000 and has since become a trusted leader in gastrointestinal care in the Tampa Bay area.

With a career spanning decades, Dr. Nakshabendi has performed over 50,000 gastrointestinal procedures, specializing in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies, including colonoscopy, ERCP, and EGD. He is one of the few physicians in the region offering a non-surgical, pain-free treatment for hemorrhoids, reflecting his commitment to innovative and patient-centered care.

Dr. Nakshabendi is deeply dedicated to ensuring timely access to care for his patients. He prioritizes eliminating long wait times, ensuring that patients can undergo necessary GI procedures without delay. His practice, which he established in 2007, has grown to include his colleague, Dr. Rahman Nakshabendi, in 2020, further expanding their ability to serve the community.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Nakshabendi has a strong passion for research and education. He has published extensively in prestigious, peer-reviewed journals such as Gastroenterology, Gut, and the American Journal of Physiology. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of gastrointestinal function and disease.

Dr. Nakshabendi is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) and an active member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the Royal College of Physicians.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Nakshabendi enjoys staying active and contributing to his community. He is fluent in English and Arabic, allowing him to connect with a diverse patient population.

Dr. Rahman Nakshabendi, affectionately known as Dr. Ray, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with advanced expertise in interventional and therapeutic endoscopy. Born and raised in Tampa, Dr. Ray left his hometown in 2005 to pursue his passion for medicine, ultimately returning to serve the community he calls home.

Dr. Ray completed his medical degree with honors, graduating as valedictorian from Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at the University of Florida, where he was recognized with the prestigious Malcolm Foster Award for being the top resident over a three-year period. He then pursued his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Iowa, followed by an advanced fellowship in Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of North Carolina, where he specialized in cutting-edge procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and other advanced endoscopic techniques.

Dr. Ray is one of only a few thousand gastroenterologists in the United States trained to perform endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), a highly specialized and minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions of the digestive tract and surrounding organs, including pancreatic, esophageal, and gastric cancers. His clinical interests include hepatobiliary diseases, pancreatic disorders, and complex gastrointestinal conditions. He is deeply committed to providing personalized, compassionate care and utilizing the latest advancements in gastroenterology to improve patient outcomes.

Throughout his training, Dr. Ray has been recognized with numerous awards, including the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Presidential Award and the Chairman of Medicine Honorary Mention at the University of Iowa. He has also presented his research at national and international conferences and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the advancement of gastroenterology and endoscopy.

After completing his advanced fellowship, Dr. Ray served as a faculty member at the University of North Carolina before returning to Tampa to join his father, Dr. Imad Nakshabendi, in practice. Together, they are dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible care to their patients, ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment without long wait times.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ray enjoys staying active through soccer, basketball, and taekwondo, in which he holds a second-degree black belt. Fluent in English, Arabic, and Hindi/Urdu, he is passionate about connecting with patients from diverse backgrounds and providing culturally sensitive care.

Dr. Ray is excited to be back in Tampa, giving back to the community that shaped him, and is committed to delivering exceptional care with a personal touch.

Dr. Ahmad Al Nakshabandi is a board-certified gastroenterologist with advanced expertise in therapeutic endoscopy and interventional gastroenterology. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and further honed his skills through an advanced fellowship in Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nation’s top-ranked comprehensive cancer center.

Dr. Al Nakshabandi specializes in cutting-edge endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), particularly for the management of complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary conditions. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of pancreaticobiliary diseases, early gastrointestinal cancers, and advanced endoscopic techniques for patients with cirrhosis and other liver-related conditions.

A dedicated researcher and educator, Dr. Al Nakshabandi has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Clinical Liver Disease, and Expert Review of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. He is also an active peer reviewer for iGIE, a leading journal in gastrointestinal endoscopy. His research focuses on improving diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes in advanced endoscopy, with a particular emphasis on cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cysts, and endoscopic management of gastrointestinal cancers.

Dr. Al Nakshabandi’s commitment to innovation and patient-centered care is evident in his approach to medicine. He is passionate about utilizing the latest advancements in endoscopic technology to provide minimally invasive, effective treatments for his patients. His work at MD Anderson Cancer Center has further solidified his expertise in managing complex cases, particularly in oncology-related gastrointestinal conditions.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Al Nakshabandi enjoys spending time with his wife and children, restoring classic cars, playing the acoustic guitar, and hiking. Fluent in English, Arabic, and Hindi/Urdu, he is dedicated to providing compassionate, culturally sensitive care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
