Florida Advanced Gastroenterology Center is a medical office that provides area residents with a resource for the latest advances in patient care. Dr. Imad Nakshabendi is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a Gastroenterology Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, and a Member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Nakshabendi completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia and finished his research and fellowship at the University of South Florida. He is dedicated to diagnosing and treating disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and liver, pancreas, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, and colon. From diagnosis to treatment and prevention, Dr. Imad Nakshabendi is committed to preserving, improving, and promoting your well-being and health.

Dr. Imad Nakshabendi is a board-certified gastroenterologist and internist with more than 30 years of experience in the field of gastroenterology.

Dr. Nakshabendi earned his medical degree from the University of Baghdad and his PhD from the University of Glasgow, where his research focused on small intestinal mucosal function and its relationship to disease. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida in 2000 and established Florida Advanced Gastroenterology Center in 2007.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nakshabendi has performed more than 50,000 gastrointestinal procedures and has extensive experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (EGD), and ERCP. He also provides minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment for internal hemorrhoids using rubber band ligation.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Nakshabendi has a longstanding interest in research and medical education. His work has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals, including Gastroenterology, Gut, and the American Journal of Physiology.

Dr. Nakshabendi is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) and a member of professional organizations including the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the Royal College of Physicians. He is fluent in English and Arabic.

Today, Dr. Nakshabendi practices alongside his son, Dr. Rahman Nakshabendi, and remains committed to providing patients with timely, comprehensive and compassionate gastrointestinal care.

Dr. Rahman Nakshabendi, known to his patients as Dr. Ray, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with advanced fellowship training in therapeutic and interventional endoscopy. Born and raised in Tampa, he returned to his hometown after completing his medical training to practice alongside his father, Dr. Imad Nakshabendi.

Dr. Ray earned his medical degree with honors from Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating as valedictorian. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Florida, where he received the Malcolm Foster Award for outstanding performance during residency.

He then completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Iowa, followed by an advanced fellowship in Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of North Carolina. His advanced training included endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and other specialized endoscopic procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of complex gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary conditions.

Dr. Ray's clinical interests include advanced and therapeutic endoscopy, pancreatic disorders, hepatobiliary disease and complex gastrointestinal conditions. His academic work has been presented at national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed medical journals. His honors include an American College of Gastroenterology Presidential Award and a Chairman of Medicine Honorary Mention at the University of Iowa. Following his advanced fellowship, he served as a faculty member at the University of North Carolina before returning to Tampa.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ray enjoys soccer, basketball and taekwondo and holds a second-degree black belt. He is fluent in English, Arabic, and Hindi/Urdu.
